COFICAB – sustainability and green skills training

Introduction
COFICAB, a global leader in automotive cable production, is a key actor in Morocco’s transition towards a green economy. Under the GIZ PPE‑2 programme, implemented with M4Edu, Paeradigms delivered a five‑day train‑the‑trainer programme on sustainability and green skills at COFICAB’s facility in Tangier. The training enabled COFICAB’s internal trainers to integrate sustainability principles and green skills across all training programmes, aligning capacity development with the evolving environmental requirements of the automotive sector.
Objectives
1) Strengthen COFICAB trainers’ understanding of sustainability, green skills and the economic, environmental and social dimensions of the green transition.
2) Equip trainers with pedagogical methods for integrating green skills into diverse internal training programmes.
3) Support the identification of technical, transversal and behavioural green skills relevant to evolving roles in the automotive sector.
4) Guide the co creation, testing and refinement of pedagogical materials for a future modular “training toolbox” on sustainability and green skills.
Outcome
1) A five day train the trainer programme on sustainability and green skills for COFICAB trainers in Tangier.
2) Co created training materials and pedagogical sequences for inclusion in a modular “training toolbox”.
3) A full mission report documenting training content, participant engagement, evaluation findings and recommendations for future capacity building.
4) Strengthened trainer readiness to deliver interactive, sustainability aligned training across COFICAB’s internal programmes.
Background
The GIZ PPE 2 programme works to improve competitiveness and sustainability in Morocco’s industrial sector, particularly in automotive manufacturing. COFICAB is central to this transition, operating in a sector undergoing rapid technological change in areas such as electromobility, circular economy practices and reduced CO₂ emissions. The training responded to COFICAB’s need to embed sustainability and green skills within its internal learning and development systems.
Approach
1) Preparing tailored training materials and coordinating logistics to align the programme with COFICAB’s sustainability strategy and training needs.
2) Delivering interactive sessions combining learner centred pedagogy, flipped classroom methods and the ETF Scaffold methodology to co create training modules.
3) Facilitating exercises exploring sustainability concepts, green skill requirements, cultural change levers and sector specific challenges and opportunities.
4) Supporting participants in developing individual sustainability action plans and contributing to the design of the modular “training toolbox”.
