Prof Dorothy Okello is an electrical engineer, researcher, and higher education leader, serving as Dean of the School of Engineering at Makerere University (Uganda) and Director of Innovation at the Resilient Africa Network (RAN). At RAN, she leads a consortium of 18 Sub-Saharan universities dedicated to identifying, developing, and scaling innovative solutions with a focus on entrepreneurship and resilience.
She holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering from Makerere University, an MSc in Electrical Engineering from Kansas University (as a Fulbright Scholar), and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from McGill University (Canada). A champion of digital inclusion, she founded the Women of Uganda Network to expand ICT access for women and rural communities.
Recognised for her contributions to science and technology, Prof Okello was named Africa’s first Digital Woman of the Year (2012). She continues to drive research, innovation, and gender inclusion in STEM across Africa.
